Teeth Whitening Procedures
Here at Miranda Family Dentist in Sutherland Shire, we believe everyone loves bright smiles and whiter looking teeth. Unfortunately teeth darken with age, some life-style factors like smoking, drinking tea, coffee, red wine and eating certain coloured foods can also affect the colour of the teeth.
The two most popular ways to achieve brighter smile and whiter teeth are:
- In-Chair whitening
- Take home whitening
Every person is different and teeth react differently to different treatment procedures. It is important to be realistic about one’s expectations before any whitening procedure is undertaken.
Teeth and gums need to be healthy before any tooth whitening procedure can be undertaken, a professional dental clean will ensure that.
In-Chair procedure produces instant results and in most cases will be supplemented by take home kits. This is the most preferred method as it results in instant whiter teeth which are longer lasting.
Take home whitening or bleaching usually takes longer and varies from person to person usually upto 2 weeks. It is preferred option for people with mild sensitive teeth on whom chairside whitening cannot be performed.
Teeth whitening is never permanent due to age, life style related factors. Both types of whitening may need top-up kits as a maintenance procedure.
Teeth whitening can cause sensitivity, we advise you to stop using the whitening product immediately if the sensitivity is unbearable. We don’t recommend whitening severely sensitive teeth as this might worsen the sensitivity. Lastly, Miranda Family Dentist of Sutherland Shire advises the usage of desensitising tooth paste before and after the procedure.
